The PolaRotary Bear Plunge is the brainchild of Dr. Patrick Rains, who is past president of the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead, and is also (along with his wife Jo Bonita) a former Citizen of the Year. Pat swears to us all that he was not on any artificial stimulants when he hatched this idea.
We are now in our 9th year, and this event has quickly become the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead’s second biggest fund raiser, after the famous Art & Wine Festival in June of each year.
The plunge is scheduled precisely in the middle of winter and is wedged between two federal holidays. And, even though PolaRotary Bear Plunge has about the same level of seriousness as Ground Hog Day, there’s really no connection between the two, other than the fact that they both fall in February. Perhaps if a PolaRotary Bear Plunger comes out of the lake and sees their shadow, they have to jump back in.
Don’t miss this next year’s event, February 4th, 2017, 10 AM, at the beautiful Lake Arrowhead Resort & Spa in Lake Arrowhead, CA.
